The History of Hermes Watches

The Hermes Business was created in eighteen thirty seven to produce leather good equestrian products and saddlery.

Thierry Hermes created the business but it was primarily his son, who expanded the empire selling direct to customers and expanding into general leather goods.

Thierry’s grandson took the family business even further moving into high quality luxury goods based upon simplicity. Now the company creates womens wear, leather goods, scarves, swimwear, coats and of course watches.

Hermes Watches- the brand name

 

Did you know the original Hermes name comes from the herald of the Olympic gods? The son of zeus and the nympth Maia Hermes was the god of merchants, land travel, shepherds, weights, measures, literature, athletics and more. Quite an impressive man. He was worshipped throughout Greece with festivals in his honour.

The Hermes Business –

The company has it’s base in Paris, with two hundred and sixteen stores worldwide. They have had a number of chief designers, bringing their own influences but maintaining the classic style. But Hermes designers have included Jean Paul Gaultier and Martin Margiela.
