The Early History of Omega Watches

As one of the most famous watch brands in the world Omega have built their sterling reputation on producing fine watches of great quality.

The Omega watches brand traces it beginnings to eighteen forty eight where a young man named Louis Brandt found recognition for producing superb quality watches from his workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The twenty three year old had begun has trade by creating precision pocket watches from a supply of parts by local craftsmen. After creating a reasonable supply he then travelled to sell his watches throughout Europe.

On Brandt’s death in eighteen seventy nine his two sons continued the family trade, improving the Omega watch business by focusing on production control and manufacturing. This ethos served them well as they moved production of the watches, into and eventually bought a factory in Bienne.

From here the Omega business flourished and improved production capabilities meant that supply of watches could keep in line with their ever growing demand.

Omega Watches – The Brand Name

The branding was brought about in eighteen ninety four with the two sons looking to establish a company name for their watch business. The name Omega has stayed ever since and has become a byword for good quality watches.
