The DKNY brand began with the birth of Donna Karan in nineteen forty nine in New York. She grew up in Long Island and, after training in fashion deign, entered the industry herself. She worked for Fashion company Anne Klein, leaving in nineteen eighty four in order to start up her own business.

The DKNY collection was launched in nineteen eighty eight, the beginning of a massive rise in growth for the DKY company. This rise is put down to the attention and style of Donna Karans clothing line. She designs for everyday big city life stating that when designing she always has women like herself in mind. In other words the DKNY creations are for real women and not models who have a style, and body shape, quite unlike the typical woman.

The DKNY company was owned by Donna Karan herself until ownership was taken over by two Japanese businessmen. The Donna Karan went public in nineteen ninety six and has achieved good performance since then. The DKNY brand however, still provides the cornerstone of the company and is the best performing brand under the company umbrella. DKNY contribute towards fifty four percent of the company sales of five hundred and ten point one million in nineteen ninety five.

The Launch of DKNY Watches:

DKNY watches were launched in order to take advantage of the brand name, moving into accessories in addition to garments and clothing. Many other fashion companies have also done this, taking advantage of their reputation for style, translating into good sales for jewellery and other such accessories. Companies which have successfully created a popular watches range include Gucci, Guess and Hugo Boss.

Seeing this popularity, the company launched their brand of DKNY watches. The collection is highly contemporary with modern watch designs and individual looks. Rather than for dress wear, the DKNY watches appear targeted for more everyday use, perhaps aimed at the urban proessional.
