History of Luminox Watches

The launch date for the original Luminox watch – the Navy Seal was nineteen ninety four. The watches were developed and thus called by demand from the Navy Seals contacting the Luminox company and asking for the construction of a specially designed watch model. Specifically their requirements were for the needs of night diving missions with luminous displays so that divers could monitor their time effectively in darkness.

After successful development of the Luminox Navy Seal watch and its impressive deployment and action, other members and groups within the armed forces became interested in additional types of Luminox watches. Eight years later a steel version of the original model was released and then a titanium model for greater strength and durability.

Other watches, including the Navy Seal model are: Marine, Stealth, Chronograph, Ultimate field and Titanium.

Luminox watches – Technology

The main feature of Luminox watches, and probably the most famous is the illumination system used (clearly one of their main selling points as their brand name suggest – a play on the word ‘luminous’). Their unique system for creating the display is, they state, what separates them from other watch makers around the globe. Each watch uses tiny ‘gas light’ which are self powered and very, very small. They are generated from special compounds developed by Luminox. They are installed into the hands, hour markers and optionally the bezels of the watches. Unlike many other luminous watches, what makes these unique is that they need no other light source. Typical luminous watch displays require some source a light which sets off their elements. Luminox watches do not need light sources or they use of electricity or charge from batteries. Each model Navy Seal, Marine, Stealth, Chronograph, Ultimate field and Titanium features this display.

Luminox Marine Watch

The Marine series of watches features bold stainless steel case for striking design. They have water resistance up to two hundred meters making them the ideal choice for marine use, hence their name. Luminox Navy Seal

These have undergone rigorous testing by Navy Seal forces and the United States Army to make sure it meets their rigorous standards. The Navy Seal watch has a fibreglass reinforced case with stainless steel, scratch resistant crystal and Swiss quartz movement along with date function. The Navy Seal watch also comes with date window.

Luminox Stealth Watch

Used by the United States Air Force the Stealth watch is a product of the Lockheed Martin Corporation. It was originally developed for Nighthawk and Stealth Jet pilots. The unidirectional bezel enables Stealth pilots to mark time zones effectively.

Luminox Ultimate Field Chronograph

The Ultimate Field Chronograph Series has a range of dial colours, blue, white and black, in addition to steel bands or leather in black or brown. The Ultimate Field is, as the name suggests powered by Swiss chronograph movement with a date function and four year battery.
